Nutrition B.S.

Do you like helping others? Are you focused on health sciences and want to improve others quality of life through nutrition and lifestyle approaches? Then the BS in Nutrition program is right for you.students discussing topics

The BS in Nutrition program includes a variety of courses in the field of nutrition such as community nutrition, lifecycle nutrition, and nutrition & fitness.

Graduates are eligible to take the Certified Nutrition & Wellness Educator exam upon program completion through the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences. The Nutrition degree program is for students who are not interested in becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

The BS in Nutrition curriculum includes:

  • general nutrition
  • community nutrition
  • nutrition assessment
  • lifecycle nutrition
  • nutrition & fitness
  • nutrition counseling

Science requirements include:

  • biology (16 hours)
  • chemistry (8 hours)

With this degree, you might work as a Public Health Nutritionist in government agencies dedicated to improving the nutritional health of various groups, such as pregnant women, infants, young children, or the elderly. You might also provide education and counseling to healthy people of all ages desiring to improve their overall nutritional health and wellness such as a Wellness Educator. You may go into business for yourself, providing nutrition education to individuals and groups, or you may find yourself suited to a management position such as a Foodservice Director in commercial, non-profit, school, and institutional foodservice organizations.

Note: The BS in Nutrition program accepts up to 36 hours of technical credit for students who have completed an AAS degree in Health Sciences or a closely-related degree.
