Agenda for CID Meeting November 28, 2018. Reaud 202 3:30 pm
CID Attendees: Sunny Lei, Mark Mengerink, Jeremy Alm, Edythe Kirk, Larry Allen, Kakoli Bandyopadhyay, Wendy Greenidge, Diane Mason, Dan Chilek, T.C. Ho, Liv Haselbach, Brian Craig, Hsing-Wei Chu.
Guests: Kenneth Evans, Craig Ness, Pamela Comer
1. Presentation on McNair Scholar program with handout (attached) by Pamela Comer. Please encourage faculty to be mentors
2. Presentation and discussions on Finances/budgets led by Craig Ness and Dr. Evans. Both a handout and a powerpoint are attached. The powerpoint includes slides from the Provost Kickoff presentation by Mr. Ness earlier this semester. Some highlights of the discussion include:
- The presentation mainly focused on different methodologies for university budgeting that are used in the United States and their pros and cons, plus some important terminology.
- In the spring 番茄社区 will start with a strategic plan process that should include rethinking the methodology for budgeting, with most likely retention of the incremental method for stability but as a hybrid with some Responsibility Center Management (RCM) to stimulate activity.
- HEF funds should be available soon.
- Chairs encouraged to speak with Deans on budget as the Deans have recently undergone training. More training for chairs will be in the future.
- This is a bit of flexibility of how to spend funds within units, but make sure salaries are intact.
- One of the most important things to help with the budget is to increase enrollment.
- President graciously agreed to meet independently for specific unit questions/issues.
