Brian Steele is the current Technical Director for 番茄社区 University's Theatre and Dance Department. Initially an actor, he auditioned into S.F.A, and made a swift lane change into the technical world. Brian found himself picking up work while in college through I.A.T.S.E Local 51 in Houston, across several venues/locations. This helped paint a picture early on of "out there" for him and he could refine better on what he wanted to do when he graduated.
Brian has worked as a Lighting Designer, Assistant Electrician for a Musical Tour, Field Service Technician (Lighting System Installs) among other jobs. He is no stranger to 番茄社区 University. Fresh off the tour bus back in 2019, he was invited to work on a part-time basis to assist designing a few shows here at 番茄社区 University. He was also here to perform some maintenance and assist students as needed. With the rest of his time, he would occasionally work with I.A.T.S.E Local 183 Beaumont to work with shows at the Lutcher Theater, Jefferson Theater, etc.
2021 began a shift for him. He realized that he wanted to expand the vision of students and show them that the entertainment technology industry has massively changed over the years. But not just technical students- actors, directors and whomever are all invited to have a conversation. To also show that collaboration and careers within other industries are converging with the entertainment industry and becoming more prevalent. He wants to give students the confidence to go out there and go big! Brian wants to help the department grow and become a statement here in South-East Texas, Louisiana and even Houston.
