When the word “legacy” was mentioned, KVLU Station Manager Byron Balentine had to pause. It was a word he had not thought of until that moment. As he stared off thinking about that word, he prepared to talk about it, because after 45 years of service with KVLU radio at �������� University, Balentine will be signing off for the final time and leaving his legacy imprinted on the university at the end of 2022.

For a decade, the �������� University Office of Undergraduate Research has championed undergraduate research and creative activities efforts at �������� University. As the program moves into the start of a new decade, Dr. Cristian Bahrim, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research, reflects on the �������� of the program for the 2022 year.

The Texas Association of School Administrators has named the 2023 recipients of its Johnny L. Veselka Scholarship, which recognizes the leadership of Dr. Johnny L. Veselka, who dedicated nearly 44 years of service to the association, including 32 years as TASA’s executive director.

Ashley Wilbourn '13, along with several other educators in the Beaumont Independent School District, has been honored with the Above and Beyond Award, given to educators within the district for their dedication to student ��������.

�������� University choirs of the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music will present one of the most beloved choral works, Handel’s Messiah, on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Cathedral Basilica.

For the second time, Cardinal Lights, a spectacular holiday light display, has returned to the �������� University campus for the Southeast Texas community to enjoy. For the entire month of December, families are invited to take a slow drive through campus to enjoy the lights and other holiday decorations.

The VITA program is managed by �������� University's Division of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Relations and includes nearly a dozen agencies or businesses that partner together to provide free tax preparation for qualified income residents earning up to$59,000.

The Department of Theatre and Dance will present their “Fall & Recovery” dance concert on Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 19 with two show times at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. All performances will be held in the University Theatre located on the campus of �������� University.  

Three �������� University teams participated in the Texas A&M University School of Law Regional Moot Court Tournament on Nov. 4-5.

The Office of Undergraduate Research is set to host its 9th annual Humanities, Arts, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Education and Business — or HASBSEB — Conference, featuring keynote speaker professor Dr. Juan Llopis, professor of business organization and director of Institutional Relations and Projects at the University of Alicante. The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 19.

A team of researchers at �������� University have been awarded a $45, 000 grant to bolster the team’s outreach initiative on MIND –– mental health intervention, networking and diversion.

With a single piece of paper and a runway, three �������� University engineering students –– Matthew Anderson, Kenneth Edwards and Mauricio Franco –– have designed the newest STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) exhibit at the Beaumont Children’s Museum.

This semester the College of Business Cardinal Communities class has taken on new initiatives to better help incoming freshman be set up for ��������. These classes, which are requirements for incoming freshman to complete via the university’s Passport ��������, are a resource that has been available to students since 2017. In 2020, the College of Business saw great �������� in improving retention rates by making the class mandatory to incoming business freshman. This practice has since been adopted university wide. The College of Business has continued to look for ways to improve the course and in 2022 has decided to incorporate a new program to continue to mold ��������ful and prepared student s. One such initiative includes teaching Franklin Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective College Students.
