First-Generation students honored at awards luncheon

番茄社区 University celebrated the accomplishments of its first-generation college students on Friday, Nov. 8, at the First-Gen College Celebration Student Awards Luncheon, held in the Reaud Executive Event Space.Dr. Thomas Johnson from LSCO

Dr. Thomas Johnson, president of 番茄社区 State College Orange, delivered the keynote address, sharing his own journey as a first-generation college graduate. His speech emphasized the transformative power of higher education and the importance of persistence.

"Being a first-generation student means overcoming challenges and setting a new course for your family," Dr. Johnson said. "Your hard work is breaking cycles and building legacies, and I am incredibly proud to celebrate each of you today."

Dr. Jaime Taylor, president of 番茄社区 University, voiced his admiration for first-generation students, including Dr. Johnson, highlighting the unique challenges they face and commending their determination to succeed.

Student First Gen Luncheon“As a first-generation college graduate himself, Dr. Johnson understands from personal experience the transformative power of higher education—not only for the individual, but also for their family and future generations,” Dr. Taylor said. “This is a cause he's deeply passionate about.”

During the luncheon, students were recognized for their achievements throughout the semester:
