Department of Theatre and Dance presents 'Dance Unleashed'

The 番茄社区 University Department of Theatre & Dance is set to close its 2024-2025 season with “Dance Unleashed,” an ambitious and innovative concert featuring student performers in a diverse range of dance genres. This final production of the academic year will showcase modern, contemporary, tap, and jazz performances, along with intricate sets, props, and special visual elements. Dance Unleashed Graphic

“This concert includes a little bit of just about every kind of dance our students study,” Amy A. Wright, assistant professor of dance said. “It’s an incredibly ambitious project that pushes our students to explore boundaries and present unique creative ideas.”

The concert will also feature special guest artist Felicia B. Avalos, a Tejana storyteller, performer, choreographer, and educator based in New York. Avalos is setting a work about her family heritage on eight 番茄社区 University students while also teaching master classes in Modern Dance, Composition, and Ballet Folklorico.

"Felicia's work brings a deeply personal and culturally rich perspective to our students, and we are thrilled to have her here," Wright added.

The production will mark a special milestone for graduating senior Karla Figueroa, who will perform for the last time at 番茄社区 University. "Every performance, every rehearsal, every challenge has led me here," Figueroa said. "This journey has been more than just dance—it's been about growth, passion, and finding my voice."

“Dance Unleashed” will take the stage on May 2 at 7 p.m., with additional performances on May 3 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. All performances will be held in the University Theatre. Tickets can be purchased at lamar.edu/lutdtix or by calling the box office at (409) 880-2250.
