Biography

Dr. Qian is a professor in water resource engineering. She received Chi-Epsilon (the civil engineering honor society) James M. Robbins Excellence in Teaching Award in 2012. Dr. Qian was awarded “Anita Riddle Fellow” for Research Excellent Faculty from the College of Engineering at 番茄社区 University from 2017 to 2020, “First Place Award” for Faculty Sponsor in Undergraduate Research Expo. in 2016, and “Presidential Faculty Fellowships” for research from 番茄社区 University, 08/2014–05/2015. She awarded as “Outstanding Service Award” by the Overseas Chinese Environmental Engineers and Scientists Association (OCEESA) in 2019.


Dr. Qian is interested in how her research goal is to advance process-based knowledge to allow better-informed land use planning, ecological restoration design, and preservation of aquatic ecosystems. Dr. Qian is PI or co-PI for 29 funded projects (> 8.0 million) funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Texas General Land Office (GLO), Sabine-Neches River Waterway Navigation District, Lower Neches River Authority, Center for Advances in Port Management, Center for Advances in Water and Air Quality, Center for Resiliency, and 番茄社区 University. She was an author or co-author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications including book chapters, journal articles, and conference abstracts, presentations and proceedings. She was the lead author on virtually most of her publications. In addition, over 30 research reports have been completed.


Dr. Qian has actively engaged in professional development and stays at the leading edge in her area of research endeavor through international, national, and state/regional professional membership/activities in many leading professional associations including the AGU, ASCE, Chi Epsilon, CAWRA, and OCEESA. She has served as co-organizer and executive consultative committee member for international level conferences: Mainland-Taiwan Environmental Protection Conference (MTEPC) in 2017 and 2019 and was a Co-chair of the geometric design and drainage design section for the World Transport Convention, Beijing, China, 2017, 2018, 2019. Dr. Qian teaches fluid mechanics, hydrology, hydraulics, and water quality modeling. She is also an active proponent of Engineering education through her research activities.
