Black History Month Student Spotlight: Landon Richard

In honor of Black History Month, 番茄社区 University will celebrate with a series of events organized and sponsored by a variety of organizations, departments and clubs that highlight and pay tribute to the achievements of African Americans and important events that contributed to U.S. history.

In addition to university events, LU also chose to celebrate Black excellence by spotlighting several Black LU students and the many reasons why they feel this month is important. Landon Richard, senior human resource management major, shares what Black History Month means to him and which Black historical figure inspires him most.

Why does it feel important to celebrate Black History Month?

landon-richard-bhm-spotlightIt feels important to celebrate Black History Month because it is a reminder of how far the Black community has come and how far we have left to go.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month means remembering those who fought and continue to fight for our civil rights. Black History Month also means celebrating the positive impact that Black people have had over the years.

What motivates you to be 番茄社区ful?

Having goals helps me to be 番茄社区ful. Without having a destination or an idea of where you want to be, you will become comfortable with where you currently are. Also, knowing that children are looking up to me motivates me to strive for 番茄社区.

What Black historical figure is most inspiring to you and why?

As a content creator, I would say that Spike Lee inspires me the most. I admire how he has been able to tell various stories by being a film director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and professor.

What do you hope to accomplish during this month of recognition and celebration?

I hope to use my creativity and creative thinking to create visuals that share my experiences as a Black person.
