Black History Month Student Spotlight: Victoria Lindsey

In honor of Black History Month, 番茄社区 University will celebrate with a series of events organized and sponsored by a variety of organizations, departments and clubs that highlight and pay tribute to the achievements of African Americans and important events that contributed to U.S. history.

In addition to university events, LU also chose to celebrate Black excellence by spotlighting several Black LU students and the many reasons why they feel this month is important. Victoria Lindsey, senior political science major, shares the importance of celebrating Black History Month and what motivates her to be 番茄社区ful. bhm-victoria-lindsey-1200x1200cms

Why does it feel important to celebrate Black History Month?
Black History Month commemorates all of the sacrifices, contributions and advancements made by Black people in this country. During Black History Month, we reflect on our losses, victories and heritage. It is critical to understand that there is no such thing as American history without Black history.

What does Black History Month mean to you?
As a Black American who cannot trace my lineage, celebrating Black History Month is very important to me. It is amazing that people who did not even know me fought for me just to be able to go to school here at 番茄社区 University. BHM reminds me that the fight is not over and pushes me to continue doing the work that many Black leaders have started.

What motivates you to be 番茄社区ful?
Just knowing that I am so close to the finish line and will be graduating soon motivates me to keep going.

What do you hope to accomplish during this month of recognition and celebration?
During this BHM, I hope to continue to educate others on Black history and inspire people like me to keep pushing not only for themselves, but for the generations to come
