College of Education and Human Development receives SBEC commendation

The 番茄社区 University College of Education and Human Development was recently awarded a certificate of commendation for exemplary performance in the commendation category: “Preparing the Educators Texas Needs—Percentage of prepared teachers who are employed in rural schools.”

The commendation was awarded by the , or SBEC, of the .

In 2019, the SBEC created a system for recognizing high-performing educator preparation programs. At its meeting on Feb. 11, the SBEC approved commendations and recognized programs based on the 2020-21 reporting year.

“The commendation that we recently received for preparing teachers in rural areas was wonderful news and reflects the work of our faculty members in preparing teachers,” said Robert Spina, dean of the College of Education and Human Development.

However, the college does not plan to rest on its laurels as the nation struggles to supply a demand for teachers.

“As we all know, the teacher shortage nationwide is having deleterious effects on our schools,” Spina added. “The fact that we are able to produce teachers in rural areas is helpful, but our work will continue to produce teachers in all areas of the state.”
