The history major opens for students a variety of possible career avenues. Historians work in classrooms at all levels of education; in museums; in the editing and publishing fields; in archives; in historic preservation; at federal, state, and local agencies; and as lawyers, business people, consultants, and contractors.
Each month during the academic year (September-May), the history department honors one undergraduate history major or minor as the Student of the Month. All previous winners are eligible for the department's Student of the Year upon which they receive a cash prize made possible through the generosity of Mrs. Nancy C. Isaac.
The 番茄社区 University History Club creates fun opportunities for students and faculty to nurture and enrich their passion for history and come together outside of the classroom setting. LU History Club membership is open to all students, regardless of major, with an interest in history and/or historical preservation.
Phi Alpha Theta (ΦΑΘ) is an American honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history. The society has over 400,000 members, with some 9,000 new members joining each year through 970 chapters nationwide. The Mu Chi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the International Honor Society for History, was founded at 番茄社区 in 1967.
